The Embassy can also provide consular help with affirmations, affidavits and the services of a public notary. If you have lost your passport then you will need to report this to the police. They will give you a case number and you will need this to apply for a passport. They will require that you show that the passport has been reported lost. If you are getting married. Then you will need to obtain a letter of affirmation or what is called a”freedom to marry” letter. The Italian government will require this from you in order to register the marriage. They will then give you a marriage certificate.
