If you happen to lose your passport while in the country, the first step is to report the incident to the Rwandan police in order to obtain a case number. The police will provide you with a letter, which you must take to the British Embassy to either apply for a new passport or obtain a temporary passport that will allow you to leave the country. If you are a resident of Rwanda, you will need to wait for a new passport, and your old Rwanda visa will have to be transferred to the new passport. Even if you apply for a new passport online, you will still need to provide the police report. Once you have your passport, you can track it online using the tracking number provided. If you plan to get married, you will need to obtain a letter from the Embassy to confirm that you are single, which usually takes a few days. You will also need to have your original documents such as a divorce decree or death certificate of your previous spouse. The letter must be verified by the Rwanda government as authentic, and then translated and certified.
